Privacy policy
Last updated 24 October 2026
This policy explains what information StudCut collects, why we need it, who we share it with and the choices you have. We collect only what we need to edit your videos and run your account, and we never sell your data.
1. Who is responsible for your data
StudCut runs StudCut and is the data controller for the information described here. Contact us about anything in this policy at hello@studcut.com.
2. What we collect
- Account details: your email address, channel name and password. Passwords are stored in a scrambled form we can't read.
- Your uploads: raw footage (which may include your voice, face or gameplay), your briefs, revision notes and the finished videos and Shorts we make.
- Billing details: your plan, payment status and billing history. Card details go straight to Stripe; we never see or store your full card number.
- Technical data: basic logs such as IP address, browser type and the time of requests, kept by our hosting providers to keep the service secure and working.
- Messages: anything you send us by email.
3. How we use it, and our legal reasons
- To create your account, edit your videos and deliver them. We need this to provide the service you signed up for.
- To take payments and keep tax and accounting records, as the law requires.
- To send you emails about your account and videos, like sign-up confirmations and "your video is ready".
- To keep StudCut secure and prevent fraud and abuse, which is in our and our users' legitimate interests.
- To answer your questions and requests.
We don't send marketing emails unless you ask for them, and we don't use advertising trackers.
4. AI and automated editing
Your footage and brief are processed by automated tools, including AI models run by our providers, to transcribe speech, choose edits and make your Shorts. These tools edit your videos; they don't make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects. We don't use your footage to train AI models, and we only use AI providers whose terms don't allow them to train on our customers' data.
6. International transfers
Some of our providers store or process data outside the UK, including in the United States. When they do, we rely on legal safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, standard contractual clauses or the UK-US data bridge.
7. How long we keep it
- Raw footage: deleted automatically 90 days after you upload it.
- Finished videos, Shorts and briefs: kept while your account is open, so you can download them again.
- Account details: kept while your account is open, then deleted within 30 days of you closing it.
- Billing records: kept for 6 years, as UK tax law requires.
9. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- correct anything that's wrong;
- delete your data, or limit how we use it;
- send your data to you or another service in a common format;
- stop using your data where we rely on legitimate interests.
Email hello@studcut.com and we'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
10. Children
StudCut isn't for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. Users aged 13 to 17 need a parent or guardian to agree to our terms. If you think a child under 13 has an account, email us and we'll delete it.
11. Security
Your footage is stored privately and can only be opened through short-lived links from your dashboard. Connections to StudCut are encrypted, and access to our systems is limited to what's needed to run the service.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your data in a way that matters, we'll email you before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows when this policy last changed.
